The new Facebook app finally launches!

September 29th, 2008

They promised it by the end of September, and it just made it in time — the Facebook 2.0 app for the iPhone.

It brings with it a host of new features, including:

  • Full news feed, not just status updates.
  • Notifications. These will even work with the background push notification, once Apple gets it going.
  • Redesigned profiles.
  • Find/approve new friends.
  • Full inbox. The current version only will show your 30 most recent messages.
If you use Facebook much at all, you’ll find this to be a superb app.  Go download/upgrade it right now!

Myst is coming to the iPhone

August 23rd, 2008

I was never a big Myst fan, but it’s one of the best-selling PC games of all time, so apparently I was in the minority.

As part of a post in the Myst Online forum, Cyan announced that “iMyst” was in the works and coming soon. Priced well enough, and I’m guessing they could find a lot of customers looking to dust off the classic. Given its very simple mechanics (full-screen image, click, full-screen image, etc), it seems like it’d be a pretty easy port.

No word yet on a release date or price point.

Earthscape brings Google Earth-like goodness to the iPhone

August 22nd, 2008

The Earthscape app has been released, and it’s pretty slick. The price tag is perhaps a bit high at $9.99, but that’s still a reasonable price for a lot of people.

Check out the intro video below, read a detailed review on Digital Earth Blog, or go get it in the app store.

New iPhone Facebook app coming next month

August 21st, 2008

Facebook has just announced version 2 of their iPhone application, due to come out sometime in September. Based on the screenshots they’ve shown, it looks slick!

I’m a pretty big fan of the current app, but apparently others aren’t so happy with it (check out these comments on Gizmodo).

Some of the new features include:

  • Full news feed, not just status updates.
  • Notifications. These will even work with the background push notification, once Apple gets it going.
  • Redesigned profiles.
  • Find/approve new friends.
  • Full inbox. The current version only will show your 30 most recent messages.

It sounds like a great update. If we hear of a more specific release date, we’ll let you know.

In the meantime, here are some screenshots to help you get a better feel for it.

Qik coming to the iPhone

June 12th, 2008

I love Qik on my N95. I shoot videos fairly often with it, and it’s a superb little tool. Today, Qik announced that a version is coming out for the iPhone!

According to Mashable, the alpha version is expected next week, presumably only for jailbroken iPhones. It’s assumed that they’re making an official app for it for the version 2 iPhones, but they’ve not announced that yet.

Here is a brief video showing it off:
